Funeral Ceremony

Mário Soares - January, 2017 Lisbon

​Funeral ceremony of Mário Soares, former President of Portugal, who died at the age of 92. The tribute was held at the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, where in 1985 Mário Soares signed Portugal's accession to the European Economic Community (EEC).

 

The funeral procession passed in important places, such as Belém Palace (the official residence of the Presidents of the Portuguese Republic), the National Parliament, Mário Soares Foundation and the headquarters of the Socialist Party which was founded by Mário Soares. In many places, people got together to say goodbye to the former Head of State.
